Student at Assumption University with a Health Science major, aspiring to be a Speech Language Pathologist in a school setting. My academic background has provided me with knowledge about the anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing mechanisms, the different phonological processes, the typical development of children, and different speech and hearing disorders. I am driven to become a Speech Pathologist because I have always wanted to be in a helping profession and I love working with kids, and it was a mixture of the two things I was passionate about: teaching and health care. As an SLP, I can help students with their speech and language disorders and provide the proper therapy to them through different activities to keep them engaged, where I can use my creative abilities to make fun activities that the students will enjoy. Through my internship with an SLP at an elementary school, I was able to observe the different ways to treat disorders and how to create activities for the students based on these disorders. Some of the core skills that will help me in this field include being able to manage a classroom well, excelling in time management, having experience in childcare, having proper customer service skills, which may help when conversing with parents, always willing to collaborate with others, and eager to help others.
