For the past 30 years I have worked in service positions within varying fields. Through each position, my primary focus always remained on practicing culturally humble and inclusive strategies in which to empower all people –allowing those who are the most marginalized to discover their voice. Through this, I have worked in positions which require hard skills and soft skills in human behavior. The diversity of the positions I've held has required me to become an empathetic listener and skilled problem solver. I can now say confidently that I am creative, responsible, and a team player. After going back to school in 2013, I now hold a Master's degree in Social Work, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, and dual minor's in Sociology and Child and Family Studies.
Listed skills include Community Outreach, Research, Management, Creative Writing, and 22 others.

This position works directly with the Equity and Diversity Office Program Manager toward enacting their Five-Year Racial Equity Plan. Through a strategic project map, the plan works to guide Bureau members toward embedded equitable processes.Specifically: I assist the Police Equity Council in strategizing ways to communicate equity internally and externally; assist in drafting and editing tools, policies, and job descriptions, and transcribe council meeting minutes. I help create, edit, and fine-tune agendas, correspondence, white papers, and business case documents, all while keeping an equity lens closely focused on our work. This position has included research surrounding Equity and Diversity policies and plans, LEP/LAP policies and plans, and historical policing and demographic information. Further, I design flyers and tools, and create PowerPoint presentations and handouts. Outcome: Through collaborative efforts, I have created a Binder for the Police Equity Council, a tangible representation to the members of this council which helps them understand how they are a legitimate body within the Bureau. This binder houses their newly created charter documents and resources for their success. I have helped this group document their plans for future projects and set-up templates for those who will eventually follow in my footsteps.

A project of the Pathways to Positive Futures research program, this position focused on helping foster youth learn skills to overcome their life circumstances, and through those skills building exercises, into understanding how their education can become a pathway to a better future.Specifically: Teaching foster youth self-efficacy and empowerment techniques; encouraging them to foresee and mitigate roadblocks to achieving a postsecondary education, or in transitioning from foster care into the workforce; helping them write college applications; acting as a sounding board for difficult life situations. Further, researching timelines and requirements, setting agendas, networking, and maintaining youth cohort meetings: attendance, location, materials, and notes. Also, researching options for grants, foster youth access to college rates, and then communicating these findings to Portland State University for review.Outcome: Two youths both submitted applications and were accepted into the colleges of their choice. One student was given a full 4-year scholarship to a local university. The other student decided on a different course, beginning with a 2-year community college first, and then reaching out for scholarships to a 4-year university. Regardless of which path they chose, I am delighted to still be able to help these two students reach their goals.
