I’ve been working as a patent scientist at Murgitroyd since July 2017, where I assist SMEs, academics and large enterprises in identifying and protecting their intellectual property, specialising in patents. I predominantly work with chemical biology, biotechnology and microbiology inventions, peptide- and protein-based therapies, nucleic acid-based therapeutics, drugs, diagnostic assays and medical devices. Besides patent prosecution, I’ve been fortunate to be involved in a number of patent oppositions, which I thoroughly enjoyed.I am part way through both UK and European finals-level examinations towards being a dual-qualified patent attorney. Prior to working at Murgitroyd, I completed my doctorate in chemistry at the University of Southampton: my thesis concerned the identification and validation of novel cyclic proteins capable of activating or inhibiting two protein-protein interactions involved in pain, cancer, memory and learning.
