I am currently a Biochemistry Masters student part of the Biomedical Biotechnology Research Unit (BioBRU) at Rhodes University in Southern Africa. In BioBRU, we conduct biochemical and cell biological research to understand how the stress response impacts on cell function in healthy and diseased cells. I am currently researching the potential of stress-inducible phosphoprotein 1 (STIP1) as a drug target for leukaemia and lymphoma. My friends and colleagues would describe me as a friendly, positive and driven individual who works well with others and likes to get involved. I have a passion for working with children and have always wanted a research career that involves them in some way. My goal is to help contribute to the discovery of novel, less invasive and more affordable therapies for common childhood cancers like leukaemia and lymphoma. I would hope that these could help give children a better quality of life while fighting these diseases. I am currently seeking opportunities that would allow me to learn from experts in the field - where I can broaden my knowledge on childhood cancers and learn more biochemical techniques as well as connect with new people.
