TEC is a dynamically growing government organisation moving to the cloud as part of a data platform modernisation program. The Principal Data Steward role has assisted the growth in data use maturity. Key deliverables while in this role have been assisting the delivery of the Data Strategy, a Data Governance Framework, leading TEC joining the Algorithm Charter of Aotearoa New Zealand, developing and implementing a data confidentiality standard, commencing investigation into adopting classification, managing data exchanges with external agencies. This is a strongly relational role which developed relationships with internal teams at TEC including, risk, privacy, ethics, data, delivery and development. Externally consulting with Tertiary Education Organisations, Ministry of Education, Workforce Development Councils, Stats NZ and legal advisors to develop consistent industry advice around data governance.
