About Jamie Mccamon

Born in Calgary Alberta. Moved to the Annapolis Valley Nova Scotia as an infant and have spent all of my childhood and most of my adult life there. I have worked at a variety of occupations over the years, the last 15+ years have been in the environmental field.Due to a work place injury I had to change my career path. An optimist by nature I looked at this as an opportunity to explore a new and exciting avenue of employment. Due to a keen interest in environmental issues and a desire to learn more about the world around us I applied for and was accepted in a two year Natural Resources Environmental Technology program at the Strait Area NSCC campus. The two year comprehensive course were extremely rewarding in regards to experience, skills and knowledge gained. I had the opportunity to work on a number of environmental related projects during my work term and summer employment with the Clean Annapolis River Project (CARP).Upon graduation I worked for CARP for five years on Species at Risk projects, (wood turtle, Striped Bass) as well as on a variety of stream and habitat restoration projects. I was their Environmental Home Assessor for a program sponsored by Environment NS and I had the opportunity to research, plan, develop, and deliver a 2 year program to rural Nova Scotia with goals to change peoples behaviour in regards to water quality testing, stormwater management, wastewater management, pollution prevention, and sustainability.I was employed as Stormwater Coordinator for the Clean Foundation's Atlantic Stormwater Initiative from Jan.2016 to Mar. 2017. I was responsible for the planning and installation of three demonstration sites in three Atlantic Provinces showing Best Management Practices (BMP's) for Stormwater management through the use of Low Impact Development Methods (LID's). I am presently employed with Scota Mines in Cooks Brook NS. as there environmental technician. My responsibilities include surface and ground water sampling as well as wildlife management, wetland preservation, and erosion control.
