  • Bbl - British Basketball League
    Digital Correspondent
Bbl - British Basketball League Oct 2019 - Sep 2022
Looking to continue to grow my presence in basketball, I contacted the BBL’s Head of Communications at the time, Selina Conroy, to ask for an opportunity to contribute to the league’s content production for the 2020/21 season. I was offered a freelance opportunity to contribute digital content and have subsequently produced hundreds of written, video and audio features for both the men’s and women’s leagues, vastly improving the league’s media profile. With the former Head of Communications moving on in January 2022 and given the strong portfolio of work I had developed in my role as correspondent for the BBL in the previous 15 months, I was approached to assume some of the Head of Communications’ duties until the end of the season. As well as continuing my role in content creation, I assumed some further responsibilities relating to the direction of the league from a media perspective in the short-term and have had a positive impact already in seeing much improved metrics on social media, significant growth in our followings, as well as a far better balance of content. These additional responsibilities have also further enabled me to develop and strengthen already positive relationships with the clubs and players in the league, and I’ve been roundly praised by many commentators in and around the BBL for my work so far.
  • Gb Basketball
    Media Officer
    Gb Basketball Jan 2022 - Jul 2023
As the individual solely responsible for content within the Federation, I created all types of content for GB channels independently. I successfully increased the Federation's Instagram followers by 75%, reaching 25,000—the largest in British basketball at the time – by ideating, producing and editing digital content of all media types to promote men’s, women’s and junior basketball at all levels, including at EuroBasket 2022 and Women's EuroBasket 2023, allowing me to build valuable relationships at the top levels of European basketball.
  • Gb Basketball
    Contributing Writer
    Gb Basketball Feb 2021 - Jan 2022
My work with the BBL resulted in connections being made on the Great Britain National Team set-up, so in February 2021 I started working on a freelance basis with them. During my time with GB I have contributed various written features previewing and reviewing key games for the Men’s and Women’s Senior teams in FIBA EuroBasket qualifying action, as well as the 3x3 team’s exploits in the run-up to major tournaments – where GB are competing for the first time, alongside a number of interview features in line with the content team’s requirements.
  • Fiba

I was responsible for creating and curating engaging content for social channels and the website, ensuring comprehensive and dynamic coverage of each event.
  • Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games
    Social Media Manager
    Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Jun 2022 - Aug 2022
    Birmingham, England, United Kingdom
Following the conclusion of the 2021/22 BBL season, I was eager to find an opportunity to work with the Commonwealth Games, and was successful in securing a position as Social Media Manager for the Games. The purpose of the role was to manage social media activity and processes across all relevant platforms as well as contribute towards the overall social media strategy and provide guidance to the wider team regarding the use of the medium. My roles and responsibilities were included but were not limited to:• Maximising opportunities on social and ensuring an innovative, results-driven approach.• Supporting and feeding into the overall social media strategy.• Maintain a suite of social media reports and insight to benchmark against previous Games and monitor success and KPIs.• Social media monitoring, listening to and understanding trending topics, informing content strategy, mitigating potential crises, and identifying policy breaches.• Help identify and deploy reactive and ‘real-time’ content opportunities.• Community management – respond to comments across our social media accounts, encourage discussion and escalate as appropriate.• Maintain calendar of content in line with marketing activity and key dates.• Work with the wider Communications, Marketing & Media team to encourage effective use of social media across all campaigns.Due to my skills in videography, I also proactively sought out opportunities to assist the videography team at the Games – which is work I undertook outside of my Social Media Manager shifts – and helped curate, produce and disseminate a number of features promoting some of the Games’ success stories.

  • Faw Trust - Dragon Park
    Digital Correspondent
Faw Trust - Dragon Park Oct 2017 - Feb 2022
    Wales
Roles and Responsibilities: • Brainstorm, plan and deliver engaging social media content in line with the FAW Trust’s aims and objectives.• Produce and edit written and video content to promote the work that the FAW Trust does in developing the grassroots game across Wales.• Accompany national team squads on camps to promote the work being done by coaches to develop young players, and to promote the players themselves as positive role models for the next generation of aspiring footballers.Summary:My role with the FAW Trust came to fruition as a result of the very positive work and reputation I have built for myself in the world of Welsh football. My work has always been all about promoting good practice, building up positive stories, shining a light on the many exceptional things being done in Wales – whether that be in politics or in sport or anything like that, I’ve never wanted to write negatively about anything, and I never will. This fit right in with the FAW Trust as they are responsible for the development of the grassroots game in Wales, developing and creating more opportunities for youngsters to play football, whether they want to be the next Ryan Giggs or Jess Fishlock or whether they just want to have fun playing football with their friends. I have produced a vast amount of video and written content for the Trust relating to various aspects of their work, whether it be promoting Community Football Days, where the Trust works in partnership with McDonalds to put on free football festivals in local areas, attended by ambassadors – which would be well-known faces from the world of football – and I would put together highlights packages of the day in written, photographic and video form, or any number of other events/engagements/fixtures that the Trust is responsible for.
  • Football Association Of Wales
    Digital Correspondent
Football Association Of Wales Feb 2016 - Feb 2022
Roles and Responsibilities: • Developed a short-term content plan ahead of the European Championships in 2016 ensuring that all aspects of Welsh football – international, domestic and grassroots – would receive as much coverage as possible in the months building up to the nation’s first major tournament in 58 years. • Executing the aforementioned content plan, producing over 40 pieces which went on to be published on the FAW’s website in advance of/during Euro 2016.• Taking on a role in August 2016 of promoting the development of the domestic game in Wales through the JD Welsh Premier League website – a role which I have really taken forward in terms of evolving from just written content to now producing video content and podcasts as well.• Work as a Press Officer on occasion for the Intermediate Men’s and Women’s National teams on camps across the world.• Work on matchdays with the senior teams to promote the successes of the men’s and women’s sides with engaging written and video content.Summary:I was approached by the FAW to produce written content for the FAW website ahead of The European Championships in France. The Euros have long since been concluded yet I still work for The FAW in this capacity, which is a testament to the quality of work I’ve produced during my time in the role. I continue to regularly write features, round-ups and previews for The WPL website and FAW website, as well as assist with FAW TV and Matchday Programme features when required to do so. I create a lot of video content which is shot and edited together on my iPhone in minutes, to great effect, with these videos garnering vast amounts of views and driving social engagement at both the domestic and national team levels. This is a role I’ve thoroughly enjoyed and the variety of roles I’ve taken on during my time working with The FAW demonstrates how capable I am of adapting to different circumstances and how much trust the media team has in me.

  • Huws Gray Ynys Mon 2019
Marketing, Communications And Deputy Tournament Director
Huws Gray Ynys Mon 2019 Jun 2018 - Jul 2019
    Holyhead, Wales, United Kingdom
Alongside my paid roles I have taken on volunteering work, providing media coverage for the Ynys Mon Island Games Association.. My primary reason for becoming involved with YMIGA was to do with the Inter Island Games Football Tournament referenced above, which took place on Anglesey in June 2019. My main role in terms of the event was to be responsible for the media side of the tournament, but I was also heavily involved in the logistics and planning ahead of and during the event too. Our tournament was widely praised by the 10 visiting islands for its quality and professionalism and the media coverage we received was outstanding, with a particular highlight being the one million impressions our Twitter activity during the six-day tournament received whilst the action was underway on Ynys Mon. I also co-ordinated extensive coverage with the BBC (English and Welsh formats), S4C (Welsh national broadcaster) Sgorio (Welsh equivalent of Match of the Day), and local written and radio media outlets, and ran all of the promotional activities pre and during the tournament, as well as our own coverage centrally, producing graphics, pre-tournament promotional videos, other videos during the tournament, press releases and promotional posters and all sorts of content ahead of and during the Tournament. Overall, almost 15,000 fans attended the tournament as attendance records across the host venues were smashed day after day, and given it was down to four of us who organised the entire tournament and everything around it in our spare time, I think it is more than fair to say it was a staggering success. Throughout the six days of the tournament our content achieved over 1,000,000 impressions on Twitter alone, which is impressive considering the account was created from scratch, managed by me in my spare time, and had only some 2,000 followers to its name at the time, and the Facebook interactions were similarly strong on a small page of just a few thousand followers.
  • Asda
    Shop Floor Assistant
    Asda Jul 2011 - Sep 2018
    Holyhead
Having worked in Netto supermarkets for two years, the company’s UK division was bought out by Asda with all Netto stores being converted to Asda supermarkets. I kept my job during the transition and have been working there to various extents ever since. My contract there is currently only 20 hours (working both weekend days), given the other commitments I have now, but previously I have worked 70-hour weeks without a problem, often working up to 20 days straight without having a day off, particular during holiday periods. The main skills I’ve picked up from working at Asda are my work ethic and my ability to deal with all sorts of people; some customers can be pleasant, but not everyone is, therefore learning how to deal with those types of situations was key, especially given there have been numerous managerial changes at the store since it opened in June 2011. At 18 years old I was offered a role as shift leader for the store, but, due to my impending attendance of Bangor University I declined the opportunity.
  • Offside Rule Podcast
    Editor
Offside Rule Podcast Nov 2014 - Feb 2016
After having some success with my own independent blog, I began to approach well-known bloggers and writers for feedback. Upon approaching Richard Laverty for his feedback I was offered a position contributing to The Offside Rule Podcast Website. My first article for the site was an interview with Seth Burkett – the first English footballer to play professionally in Brazil and I have since contributed articles analyzing the FIFA Voting Process Summary Report, a piece based on an interview with Chris Coleman and preview pieces for Wales’ Euro 2016 qualifiers as well as an interview with Wales women’s winger Natasha Harding about her hopes for the ongoing Euro 2017 qualification campaign. I also interviewed Jack Harper when he was at Real Madrid, a young Scottish prospect that now plays for Brighton, as well as Wayne Hennessey regarding how he was settling in at Crystal Palace and interviewed a number of former Premier League players as part of an extensive season preview series, such as Andy Melville, David Fairclough, Dean Ashton and others. An article I wrote for the site based on an interview I conducted with Raymond Verheijen about pre-season fitness is the most-viewed article the site has ever had. I regularly write summary pieces of weekend Premier League action, articles that garner roughly 15,000-20,000 hits and write a fortnightly blog for the site; topics so far have covered the Team GB controversy, The fall and rise of Borussia Dortmund, The importance of Daley Blind to Louis van Gaal etc.
