Responsible for leading and mentoring finance team of 8 to ensure best practices were adopted to improve the departments performance and efficiency. This involved streamlining and automating many of the existing financial reporting processes to improve the reliability and robustness of the reporting systems. Successfully remediated all control deficiencies identified at previous internal audits to the satisfaction of the auditors and achieved an excellent result at the last audit I was responsible for, where for the first time the company had no SOX issues reported or to be remediated.

This role was in the Global Financing division of IBM offering customers an alternative to funding their purchases though IBM rather than using the usual financial institutions; quarterly revenues were in excess of $350m.Responsible for leading and mentoring the 10 regional/country finance teams. Including monthly reviews of the regional/country results, discuss/analyse results, variances and request additional information as required. Executive reporting of the consolidated results to the Worldwide Director of IGF based in New York.Additionally offer guidance to the business on accounting implications of new offerings; Prepare reports and provide recommendations for changes to standards and processes; Formulate procedures to address emerging issues not covered under existing standard practices / policies; Identify/define and coordinate system change requirements to meet emerging business needs; resolve technical issues relating to Hyperion automated allocations and system data flows; provide both internal and cross functional guidance and expertise on IT systems, standards, processes and accounting data flows.Developed a new run once system based program using SQL query tool to interrogate tables that enabled the teams throughout Europe to analyse the monthly data, faster and more efficiently than previously possible, including brand analysis. Resulting in time and efficiency savings.

This role was for the customer outsourcing division where IBM would contract to perform processes such as but limited to call centres, finance functions and other cloud facilities on their behalf either on/off shore. Contracts ranged from £5m rising to £680m over the term of the contract and were typically long term (5-10 years).Responsible for the monthly analysis of UK, Ireland and South African results; Integrity and accuracy of the UK, Ireland and South African P&L’s and Balance Sheets; Revenue and cost matching processes ensuring revenue was recognised in accordance with Accounting Practices; Perform contract analysis covering areas such as forecasts, T&C's, contract health and end to end process understanding; Required to work closely with the business on any issues, resolving them and bringing them to a conclusion in a timely basis; Sarbanes Oxley compliance; Drive efficient and effective Accounting Processes through standardisation and teaming between the 4 revenue teams; Develop best of breed processes.

This role was performed for the centre of excellence responsible for maintaining the integrity of the UK, Ireland, South Africa and Netherlands balance sheet accounts. I was responsible for all areas pertaining to accounting revenue across all four countries.Due to the knowledge gained leading the divesture project, I re-engineered the accounting revenue processes. These enabled the brands and other departments to easily identify their respective ageing profiles across all four countries. Prior to this information at this level of granularity was not previously availableImproved on the existing of communication between the brands, customer fulfilment and accounting as well new ones.By opening up the new communication channels and the integrity of the data being reported it enable each department to avoid duplication, allowed for a better understanding of each departments processes and resulted in a onetime release of the approximately $15m in duplicated provisioning.

Whilst performing the my day job as Accounting Revenue analyst, I volunteered to project lead the European Finance Team tasked to produce the P&L and Balance Sheet results of IBM’s Personal Computing Division prior to its divestiture to Lenovo.Responsibilities included; Leading the international and local teams required to perform the necessary tasks required to facilitate the objective set; The segmentation of the divisions results from IBM’s main results; Ensure integrity of data being provided; Creation and validation of the PCD Balance Sheet and a Profit & Loss for each quarter as required for the previous 12 quarters and up to and including the eventual sale of the PC division to Lenovo; Obtaining a clean audit reports and arranging the sign off of the Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss with external auditors PwC in the UK and local CFO for submission to their New York office; Chairing weekly conference calls with the Worldwide Vice President of Segmentation in the US.Information at this level of granularity was not previously available and had to be identified, verified and auditable. It therefore required a great deal of system knowledge, collaboration with other divisions and departments within IBM, which I successfully achieved.All project milestones were met - in many cases earlier than scheduled.I received top achiever/performer awards for my efforts, results and leadership skills in 2004 and 2005.
