Through positive one-to-one engagement I aimed to promote positive change and steer the young person towards a positive destination by providing opportunities and experiences that relate to the individual. I also gained the opportunity to deliver sessions within Kilpatrick School each week (West Dunbartonshire). Within Kilpatrick I aimed to develop and promote varied topics of Health and Wellbeing. The sessions conducted were inclusive to all involved promoting varied factors such as, safety, enjoyment and trust. These sessions maintained the aim to promote positive youthwork as well as personal development for all involved. Currently I am based within the 'Student and Family Engagement Hub' as a Pupil Worker within the Vale of Leven Academy (West Dunbartonshire). This role requires myself to work with pupils within the school who have varied individual development barriers that are disrupting their journey within education (predominantly S1-S4 pupils). I mainly engage on a 1-1 basis with the pupils referred from Pastoral Care Teachers, aiming to meet the targeted aims, goals and outcomes identified. These are often achieved using positive engagement. Engagement maintains a youthwork approach, each session and engagement promotes a safe, positive and nurtured environment, allowing self development and a positive reflection to occur (allowing the individual to overcome barriers faced whilst reflecting on progress). I also deliver varied topics to targeted groups, focusing on Health and Wellbeing, employability and topics that are designed to promote better choices within education and their local community (Pitchin In).
