About Jamie Bristow
Within an emerging field of inner-led societal transformation, Jamie Bristow works to accelerate and deepen the dialectic between ancient wisdom and modern science, and the overdue integration of inner and outer systems change approaches in public policy. The primary question animating his research, writing and speaking relates to practice - what are we practising, individually and collectively, to be more equal to the challenges of our times? He has taught and advised on courses at the Universities of California, Harvard and Oxford. Jamie is currently a research fellow and member of Life Itself, an honorary associate of Bangor University and a fellow of Mind & Life, and he leads on public narrative and policy development for the Inner Development Goals, emphasising the inner skills and qualities needed for a sustainable transition. Formerly he was clerk to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Mindfulness and Director of the associated policy institute, The Mindfulness Initiative. In its formative days Jamie was Business Development Director at Headspace and his deeper background encompasses psychology, climate change campaigning, and advertising.Jamie is a dedicated practitioner of Insight Meditation, a Buddhist tradition that’s associated with Gaia House, IMS and Spirit Rock retreat centres. The Mindfulness Initiative is a policy institute that grew out of a mindfulness teaching programme for politicians in the British Parliament. It has provided the secretariat to the UK All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Mindfulness since its formation in 2014. The Mindfulness initiative has since helped to introduce mindfulness training to a further 10 legislatures around the world. Following the groundbreaking policy report Mindful Nation UK, published on behalf of the Mindfulness APPG in 2015, the initiative has produced a series of landmark briefings and reports that have helped shaped the narrative around the development of inner capacities in public life globally. As politicians' interest expanded from the applications of mindfulness and compassion training in society to the applications within politics itself, The Mindfulness Initiative helped foster a dialogue about the potential impacts on parliamentary culture. The Mindfulness Initiative also founded the Mindful Workplace Community and produced resources to aid the skilful implementation of mindfulness training within both public and private contexts.Key publications include: Mindfulness in Westminster: Reflections from UK Politicians - https://www.themindfulnessinitiative.org/mindfulness-in-westminster-reflections-from-uk-politiciansReconnection: Meeting the Climate Crisis Inside Out - https://www.themindfulnessinitiative.org/reconnectionMindfulness: Developing Agency in Urgent Times - https://www.themindfulnessinitiative.org/agency-in-urgent-timesFieldbook for Mindfulness Innovators - https://www.themindfulnessinitiative.org/fieldbook-for-mindfulness-innovatorsImplementing Mindfulness in Schools: An Evidence-Based Guide - https://www.themindfulnessinitiative.org/implementing-mindfulness-in-schools-an-evidence-based-guideMindful Nation UK report - https://www.themindfulnessinitiative.org/mindful-nation-reportthemindfulnessinitiative.org
