About Jamie Hartzell

A life-long social entrepreneur, I have substantial board experience for companies, charities and not for profits as both non-executive and executive in the food, finance and sustainable transport and property sectors such as with Divine Chocolate, Zaytoun, Positive Money, Pedal and Post and the Real Farming Trust. I founded both Ethex and the Ethical Property Company and am an investor in a wide range of social businesses.I founded The Ethical Property Company in 1998. In 2005 I founded the Ethical Property Foundation, a charity giving advice on property matters to other charities; and in 2008 Ethical Property Europe SA, based in Belgium. In 2010 I became Director of International Development, extending the Ethical Property model to France, Netherlands and Belgium. in 2012 I founded Ethex, a not for profit crowdfunding platform that has raised over £120 million for mission-driven businesses. For 10 years I was a documentary film-maker working on environment and development issues with the BBC and Channel 4 leading to extensive travel across Africa, Asia and Latin America. I became acting director of Television Trust for the Environment in 1990. In 1991 I worked in the Netherlands for a year setting up the TVE Netherlands arm. I then founded my own film production company Small World working on films for Channel 4 and a range of NGOs, such as for ActionAid on AIDS and gender issues. In 1994 I set up the alternative news video Undercurrents focusing on the direct action movement before leaving film altogether in 1998.I have also been involved with number of campaign and philanthropy organisations and am currently working to cut car use in Oxfordshire by 25% by 2030.
