Jamie Harvie is a civil engineer, and presently serves as Executive Director for the Institute for a Sustainable Future (ISF), a not-for-profit organization based in Duluth, Minnesota. In this capacity he founded Health Care Without Harm's (HCWH) Healthy Food in Health Care Initiative, a campaign of healthcare and environmental professionals working to transition healthcare food in service of ecological health. He served on the steering committee for the Green Guide for Healthcare, the healthcare sector's only quantifiable sustainable design and operations toolkit. In addition, he coordinated the national phaseout of mercury medical devices.

The Food Commons is a new economic paradigm and whole system approach for regional food that combines community ownership and vertical integration to create wealth and improve good food access.
