About Jamie Hickey

I am a highly skilled and very experienced monitor engineer. I’ve been mixing monitors since 2001 and give or take the odd foh gig, it’s been my sole job within the live sound industry. I have chosen to specialise in this area as I believe it to be the most exciting, challenging, and rewarding. Each job has it’s own specific set of demands and requirements and my forte is quickly understanding these parameters and adapting to suit.Over the years I have worked with and for some incredibly talented people. My ethos is simple: “Make it sound great and let the artist know you have their back. Clear and honest communication is at the heart of all good relationships. Everything else will fall in to place once you have the artist’s trust.”I ‘grew up’ making wedges really loud with analogue consoles - a dying art these days and one that I still enjoy! Making the transition to digital consoles and IEM’s was a natural progression and something that I excel in. I’m ‘old school’ enough to be experienced with analogue and it’s foibles, but open enough to join the revolution. My IEM mixes are clear, but immersive, giving the artist the best experience possible.Throughout my time touring I’ve worked in some of the world’s most iconic and prestigious venues. I’ve also worked in some absolute armpits. However, my attitude to the job is always the same. I’m approachable and easy to talk to, with the knowledge and experience to resolve a problem before it becomes an issue.I have an artist deal with JH Audio who make superb IEM's. I currently use the Roxanne, JH16v2 and JH16 models.

  • Tindersticks
    Monitor Engineer
    Tindersticks Apr 2008 - Feb 2016
    Worldwide
Not just the monitor guy....although that's how I started with them.I've toured extensively with Tindersticks throughout the UK, USA and Europe. I've not counted but my best guess is about 400 shows.I have mixed Tindersticks in configurations ranging from 14 people on stage, to just Stuart solo. Most of the time we picked up house production - setting up for 14 people at a festival using house gear, in a 30 minute changeover really helped me hone my chops!! Album campaigns to date: 2008/9: The Hungry Saw2010: Falling Down A Mountain2011: Claire Denis Film Scores2012: The Something Rain2013: Across Six Leap YearsThroughout that time, I've built up a great relationship with the band and recently recorded and mixed their "Live in San Sebastian" album.I've also been responsible for putting together any MIDI or trigger based sample systems that they require. MPC's, Kontakt, MainStage etc.I was tasked with drum programming for a Tindersticks' commission/project - a soundtrack to a film called Les Salaudes, by French Director, Claire Denis. In February 2015, Tindersticks were the first 'band' to play at La Philharmonic De Paris - Paris' newest and most elaborate concert hall.

  • Banco De Gaia
Backline Tech / Monitor Engineer / Front Of House Engineer
    Banco De Gaia 2000 - 2010
    Worldwide
My first proper gig! I started out doing backline for a year or so, but ended up jumping on to the monitor desk. It was a self imposed baptism of fire due to a particularly useless Turkish monitor engineer that spoke little English. I just said "I know how a desk works, shall I do the monitors?"And that was the start of things to come...Over the years I've done countless gigs with Banco at Monitors and Front Of House.
  • Swg Events
Case Pusher, Stage Tech, Baby Sitter, Monitor Engineer, Front Of House Engineer Etc.
    Swg Events 2002 - 2008
    Uk
SWG was the first PA company that I worked for. I started out, (as many people did and do) pushing boxes and unloading trucks. This eventually lead me to stage patching and in June 2002 I ended up as 'patch chief' for what was then called The New Bands Stage at Glastonbury Festival. It's now called The John Peel Stage.Subsequent years went by and my experience started to grow - eventually I ended up being SWG's 'go to' monitor guy, returning to the John Peel stage in 2003, 2004 and 2005 as the house monitor engineer. In amongst all that, I learned an incredible amount about PA work and live sound. The nature of working for a PA company is that you end up doing a wide variety of events and gigs. From corporate Christmas parties, to speeches, Pop gigs for 30000 people, press conferences - you name it.At SWG at that time, there were a bunch of us newbies who have all now gone on to do fantastic work, in all areas of our industry. It was a great foundation for us all, and I'm forever grateful for the opportunity that Alister Pook, Mark Bott and in particular, Mike Taylor gave to us.
  • Blackbud
    Foh Engineer
    Blackbud Nov 2004 - Aug 2005
FoH and Mons for Independiente's "hot signing" of 2004/2005. I was tasked with bringing a young new 3 piece up to speed with gigging on the pro circuit. I introduced them to IEM's as well as getting their gear "gig ready". We had a lot of fun doing gigs and festivals all over the UK and Europe. Highlights were T in the Park and Glastonbury's John Peel stage.
