Special Education Teacher
CurrentWorks in close collaboration with support staff, general education and special education staff, administration and parents to design and implement quality curriculum and functional instruction through individualized education plans for special needs students. Maintains effective classroom management and discipline by creating engaging lessons for students in TK-5. Ensure all grades, records and data collection are accurately updated and input. • Analyze students’ academic strengths and weaknesses, both in class and on state/district assessments, to provide intensive interventions and differentiation strategies as well as to track progress• Design and implement lesson plans using multiple modalities to reach students with various styles of learning• Coordinate and lead IEP meetings • Employ diverse techniques to promote active learning including individualized instruction, problem solving assignments and small group work • Exercise flexibility within the classroom to address students’ needs through specialized accommodations • Actively involved in students’ behavioral, social and academic development; aiding students in developing emotionally, feeling comfortable in social situations and awareness of socially acceptable behavior • Collaborate with general education teachers to modify and implement lessons and assessments to ensure that material taught align with the Common Core State Standards • Engage in consistent dialogue with parents, administrators and various service providers to ensure student success inside and outside the classroom• Utilize research-based curriculums during lessons such as Read Naturally, Rewards, Read Well and Benchmark
