Student Intern
My 6-month internship was at PCF SparkleTots Preschool @West Coast Blk 728. My home class was the K2(AM) class in the morning. However, since it is a kindergarten centre, I was assigned to assist in the K1(PM) class in the afternoon. My main roles were: - Planning of lessons with the teachers (K2 classes)- Conducting lessons (home class)- Assisting during lessons- Helping out in daily routines - Arrival and Dismissal- Making of teaching aids and learning centre materials- Uploading photos on Little Lives (weekly)- Doing up the class Learning Journey to display in class (Bi-weekly)- Assisting teachers from other levels when there is a lack of manpower- Helping out during school events (E.g. National Day, Parents day, Racial Harmony day, etc.)My internship experience was very fulfilling and I could not be more thankful for the experience I had. I gained knowledge on classroom management, curriculum planning, event planning as well as how to communication with parents and how to form positive workplace relationships. In the 6 months, I got to experience what it was truly like as an early childhood educator, from teaching to doing all the background work and communicating with parents. I also got to experience planning a field trip for the K1 and K2 classes. I learnt what went into the planning of a field trip, from the liaising with the vendor, to budgeting and creating consent forms and recce of the site. I formed strong bonds with the children, their parents during my time there. I also forged close relationships with my mentor, and the other teachers and staff working at centre during the 6 months I was there. I am forever grateful to have had my internship at this centre.
