Since 2004 I have had the privilege of being a business leader at Slumberland Furniture as Vice President, Information Technology. As the head of technology, I was asked to make significant changes throughout the $430 million privately held organization. Upon my employment, I met with many people throughout the organization, carefully listened to the business issues and asked lots of questions. Working closely with other Executive Cabinet members, we aligned the technical strategic and tactical plan to help achieve the organization’s business goals and better serve our customers. First, we solidified the hardware infrastructure by building a new data center and implemented new hardware and redundant equipment where necessary, to ensure continued business operations. Next, we tightened up and standardized security for all software. Lastly, we modernized all software throughout the organization, ushering in a new level of efficiencies. Slumberland is now enjoying a very stable, secure and cost effective computing environment that is running current versions of software and hardware throughout our 120+ locations in 12 states. Bringing about change like this took vision, communication, planning, leadership, relationship building, people skills, process improvement, hard work and closely managing a multimillion dollar budget.
