Paisley - Argyle & Clyde, Livingston - West Lothian

As an ambulance technician I provide pre-hospital care to the public as part of an ambulance crew with another technician or paramedic and in rare cases as a single crewed first responder. I work with our control who dispatch ourselves on 999 emergency calls, GP arranged urgent calls and routine take homes including palliative care discharges to home. I work with other professionals in providing the most suitable care/safety-netting for the patient; arranging GP visits through NHS24, discussing local safety netting pathways with clinical advisers at ACC and co-ordinating resources with other public services for complicated and dangerous situations such as fire services, police, SORT and others for RTCs, water rescue, fires, properties with no access etc.

Carries out daily inspection of vehicle and report any damage or defects immediately.2. Checks route and delivery load is safe and legal under WESAR weight regulations. Drivers duty to maintain hygiene and reduce company emissions. 3. Expected to maintain a strict delivery schedule without compromising on safety. 4. Responsible for refuelling, unloading and vehicle cleaning end of shift.

This position helped me understand the necessity for regulatory standards for health and safety specifically in food hygiene. The consequences for poor hand hygiene was paramount and not too dissimilar from my current role in preventing HAIs.

Pacific Quay

Part of my Honours project in which I had full access to BBC Scotland's Pacific Quay to interview staff create a questionnaire and hold listening tests. The aim of the project was to gain insight into how BBC Scotland could implement the HD audio facilities available to them into the programme they locally produce with as little cost as possible. This project put me in a position where I had to develop leadership skills and was given the autonomy to conduct my own research and tests with the aim to develop and recommend the best process for HD audio delivery in time for the launch of BBC Scotland HD. I learned how to conduct myself in a professional environment so that I could collate information from interviews, questionnaires and other methods of quantitative and qualitative data collection.

This is a role where I would record voice overs for localisation projects where multiple languages were needed for apps, movies and games. This involved working with native language talent to record scripts in the languages needed. The company had a talent pool mostly consisting of students in the Glasgow area where they would be called in for the day to provide male/female voice in their native tongue. Often they would have little to no English which provided challenges in the form of communication/cultural barriers in explaining the goal for each product and the style of vocal delivery the client desired. I would have to use Google translate, body language and eye contact to help direct them through each script which I would edit in post production in cleaned up sound files names with a data matrix so I could arrange each line of foreign dialogue wit the correct piece of script without being able to understand or read either to deliver a quality and accessible finished product to the client. I would often take on feedback and provide any desired changes including the upward and downward intonation ending each word, sentence or phrase so that it can be used more accurately for the projects needs.

I was in charge of the main recording studios for Music Technologists at UWS. This role involved: Developing documentation for students using the studios equipment and the rules involved in keeping the studio operating at full capacity. Taking note of faulty equipment and complaints then fixing the issues at hand e.g. booking equipment for repair.A regular stock take was undertaken so a balance between the studios could be achieved.
