As the head of Energy Wise Alliance since its founding, the organization has become the preeminent energy education provider in Louisiana. EWA's specialty is in-person education of students in the classroom and families in the community. Annually, our programs reach over 8,000 school-aged students at over 120 schools throughout Louisiana. Family-based outreach includes workshops, festivals and presentations at over 180 events per year. Achievements include managing the organization to expand programming, staff, budget and resources from a start-up to established regional organization. Board management for community oversight and engagement, and day-to-day operations involved in running a small company.

Bike Easy's beginnings were as an all-volunteer, member-based organization, with very little cash. As the first executive director, I was able to build a team of expert and community-focused board members, a cadre of dedicated volunteers and consistent funding to support a small staff. Bike Easy has grown into a true player as a well respected, regional policy and education organization advocating for street safety for everyone. Matching the needs of bicyclists, funders and politicians to affect real change in road safety was a key element to our success.Start-up achievements include winning university and government contracts, private foundation grants and creating a member-based giving program that all live on today. Advocacy wins were immediate at city council, mayor's office, as well as regional and state governments to improve roadway design, construction, policy implementation and wide-spread safety training. Program highlights include bicycle safety education through classes, encouragement activities through bicycle valet, school-based physical education programs, and a Bicycle Second Line parade that draws 1000's of bicyclists annually. The work of creating and managing the day-to-day processes and systems of a small business, including accounting, CRM (Salesforce), website, social media and human resources was essential to long-term success.Bike Easy was the 'Metro Bicycle Coalition of New Orleans' when I joined the team. Managing the creative work and board expectations through a renaming and re-branding in 2011 was a huge source of our success into the future.

Healing coastal communities by inspiring direct action including volunteering, membership and political action. Developing and delivering shoreline programs, public comment processes and myriad interactive events (e.g. fundraisers, speaker series, tours). Building a grassroots constituency in target legislative districts to pass legislative priorities developed by our organization. Strategic Program Development Achievements:Acquired and managed $75,000 in new grant and private donor funding. Managed a volunteer staff of thirty and as many as 6 interns at any given time.Conducted outreach at 42 festivals annually, gaining 8,500 new supporters over 3 years. Presented monthly interviews and presentations to media and community groups, such as KING 5 News in Seattle, the Rotary Club, Snohomish County, and the City of Seattle. Led a public comment meeting for 35 participants in collaboration with the public, county and nonprofit organizations to initiate a coastal restoration project at a public park.

Created a company-wide program to recruit, orient, train, and place 4,200 volunteers per year.Mentored peers in new methods including writing job descriptions, anticipating workforce needs and developing relationships with ongoing volunteers to increase retention.Designed and delivered orientations to 300 volunteers per year, and have since delegated this responsibility.

Managed staff, equipment and instructional content of "hands-on, minds-on" educational program that served over 19,000 students annually on a geographically remote island. Program Leadership Achievements:Managed $25,000 annual equipment budget. Hired, supervised and mentored 27 staff. Evacuated staff and managed 11 days of emergency relocation during a wildfire. Built an intake line for a 3000 gallon aquarium system underwater on SCUBA. Coordinated trail maintenance for 12 miles of interpretive trails.Head Aquarist (2005-2007) Maintained flow-through aquarium system including animal collection, husbandry and system repairs. Performed underwater construction and animal collection and also held the position of the site's Dive Safety Officer. Crafted marine collection equipment (zooplankton scoops, lobster traps, fish nets, etc.).Marine Science Instructor (2004 - 2006) Taught marine science to students in fourth through twelfth grades. Organized summer naturalist programming dock-side in partnership with three local youth sailing centers. Coordinated logistics for Harbor Island day trips for community groups and their youth participants. Managed three Junior Marine Educators and handled media contacts and press releases. Worked with 72 community groups to bring thousands of kids to Boston Harbor. Responsible for press and media coverage in 14 neighborhood newspapers.

Dissected and processed samples for trace metal and synthetic organic chemical analysis. Trained new staff and followed clean lab protocol.
