Honorable Vice President and Technical Chair, World Wind Energy Association (WWEA); Member, Executive Board, and International Association of Wind Engineering (IAWE) - Dr. Hossain has been at the forefront of the wind industry from the very beginning when first windfarms were being set up in India. Working at the confluence of Industry, Policy, and Research - one of his major achievements has been his association with several wind energy startups in senior management positions that flourished as strong businesses. Examples are Enercon India, GFL (Inox), IDFC PE-invested Green Infra, and the emergent Consulting Platforms on wind energy.A significant contribution of Dr. Hossain has been in assessing the potential for setting up wind farms in India in 2011. The assessment, the first of its kind scientifically, identified the potential for wind farms in India at around 2000 GW. This figure much larger than the value previously assumed, resulted in a major policy change and new target setting by the Government of India – 175 GW of RE by 2022 and 450 GW by 2030.Since 2017, Dr. Hossain has been undertaking complex analyses for wind energy projects involving hybridization and Round-the-Clock Power. He has also participated as a Technical Expert in multilateral and bilateral Clean Energy Programs such as those from ADB, The World Bank, EU, and USAID. He has been associated with the first initiatives of "Offshore windfarms" in India including the EU-supported First Offshore Wind Project of India (FOWPI), World Bank, and Shakti Foundation-supported Roadmaps on Offshore Wind. Internationally, he has worked on projects in Malaysia, Cambodia, Kenya, Bangladesh, Turkey, Bhutan, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka. In association with WWEA, he is also involved in policy formulations on renewable energy in different countries such as Cuba, Germany, Italy, Turkey, China, Korea, Australia etc. He has received many awards. He has also authored many publications and books such as “Emergence of the Wind Option”, “Earth@Risk”, and “Energy and Humanity”In 2017, he launched the RE Think Tank with more than 100 key decision-makers in renewable energy, which essentially undertakes policy and industry analysis in India.
