Hello there, my name is Jamil Davis! I was born and raised on the south side of Chicago and have called it home for over 20 years. After graduating from Lane Tech College Prep in 2019, I decided to continue my education at Knox College. When I first began my college career at Knox College I was interested in majoring in political science with an interest in pursuing law after graduation. I would eventually change my major to Public Policy because this was the major that included all the things I was passionate about. It combined my interest in sociology, political science, research and economics. With the guidance of Professor Andrew Civettini, I completed my capstone research on homelessness and policy solutions to combat homelessness. Knox College fostered my passion for community engagement and policy change through the classes that were provided, and through my involvement with the Knox Student Senate. I would then choose to advance my knowledge through the top-ranked Master of Public Affairs program in the country at Indiana University. The program at Indiana University has enabled me to advance my skills and make me competitive candidate in the field of public affairs. With internships with United Way, Illinois People’s Action, and Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago I was able to use the skills that I leaned in the class room and apply them to every position that I have held. I am passionate about equity, community engagement and community outreach. I believe these things are key to creating stronger communities around the country. I believe this also leads to impactful policy change that everyone can be proud of. Seeing the development of communities and organizations while being involved in the decisions making process is what makes my work so fulfilling.
