Jamil Simon is a peace activist, award-winning documentary filmmaker and communications expert. He was awarded the 2019 Luxembourg Peace Prize for his work promoting global awareness of peace efforts through the Making Peace Visible initiative. He produced films and designed public awareness programs in Africa, Europe, Asia and Latin America to promote social and environmental reform.Jamil has worked as a consultant in communication strategy for multilateral organizations like USAID and the World Bank, designing and implementing public awareness programs in developing countries to promote reform. He's promoted sustainable agriculture in Malawi, conflict resolution skills in Jordan, democracy in Mali, and water conservation in Tunisia. He's created a powerful new initiative, Making Peace Visible, Peace and Conflict in the Media. MPV brings journalists and peacebuilders together to re-imagine the way the news media covers peace and conflict. The inaugural symposium was held in NYC in April 2018. The project is at www.MakingPeaceVisible.org We produce a podcast called Making Peace Visible, a journal called NUANCE, and Peace Docs, a curated list of documentary films about peacebuilding, as well as live and online events. The next Making Peace Visible Symposium will be in Washington DC in 2025.Jamil’s photos have been published in books and magazines and exhibited in galleries. He has given talks at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, The Fletcher School at Tufts University, Stanford University, Brandeis, Boston University, and other institutions, speaking on ways to elevate awareness of peacebuilding and reconciliation and innovative ways to reach audiences in developing countries.
