With four other co-researchers, I designed and executed five focus groups for international… Show more I worked as a research fellow on stakeholder engagement in collaboration with Brown University’s Global Brown Center for International Studies (formerly International Students Experience Office) and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion in order to better understand problems international students face during their time at Brown and problems faced by minority students in the U.S. studying abroad. With four other co-researchers, I designed and executed five focus groups for international students with the intention of understanding their specific experiences as international students at Brown, the problems they faced because of their international identity, and what programs/policies at Brown helped or hindered their experiences as Brown students. Based on our findings, we concluded that these two populations should be evaluated separately, and identified specific programs and policies for international students that were not achieving their intended goals. Our research resulted in more specific orientation and affinity programming for international students of different backgrounds and increased visibility through a larger, more localized space on campus.
