We are Words, Beats & Life (WBL), DC’s longest running, dopest Hip-Hop based arts educational non profit.We are here to break down those barriers that keep our cities' outstanding young creatives from taking full advantage of the opportunities that come along with living in the Nation’s Capital. Our goal is to invest in Washington, DC’s creative eco system to employ our extensive list of artists and creators to be living examples of what our city’s creative youth can accomplish with the right tools and the best role models. We achieve this goal through our many workshops, after school programs, concerts and festivals. We are Unapologetic advocates for the transformative power of hip-hop culture in all its forms. We empower artists, aspiring artists and lovers of expression to relentlessly create, refine and define systems that demonstrate positive change through our individual and collective brilliance. Our arts based educational programs equip youth, creatives, practicing artists and scholars to move from theory to practice. Our mission is to improve educational opportunities for children of low-income Baltimore City families by providing partial scholarships without regard to race, ethnicity, or religious belief. We promote a diverse and competitive educational environment in Baltimore.

Create, develop and manage Mentor Foundation USA programming designed to reduce risks and increase opportunities for vulnerable youth, Adapt Mentor Foundation international materials and mission to serve the United States population, Develop corporate relationships for serving youth in school districts throughout Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia and Pennsylvania. Create manage and evaluate all program content, Lead efforts in promoting Mentor Foundation USA’s programs in media and public forums. Results – Mentor Foundation USA to Date• Established school-based partnerships with local corporations for meaningful experiential learning opportunities. Companies have included: ENDO, H&M, Skanska ID, Baker & Hostetler LLP, M&T Bank, Qlik and HOK• Designed and implemented the Authentic Career Experience Program for over 300 youth throughout Montgomery County, Baltimore City, Alexandria, William Penn, PA and Washington DC.• Designed and implemented a Corporate School Based Mentoring Program, which enables professionals from various corporations and government agencies to serve as mentors to vulnerable high school students. • Designed and implemented programming for over 1,000 youth for the Shattering the Myths Youth Rally which assisted in securing partnerships with A&E Networks and Comcast.• Established and maintained partnerships with government agencies such as the Office of National Drug Control Policy and the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Assisted the principal in the development of school goals and objectives, Provided direction to implement goals that promoted student achievement, Evaluated the school culture model and trained staff to initiate improvements and build positive relationships with students and their families, Assisted the principal in identifying budget priorities, Coordinated schedules for the staff and student body, Exceeded the established requirements under the auspices of the school operator and district, Designed and implemented programming to maintain a school culture of excellence and respect, Planned and coordinated student led conferences and portfolio reviews.

Assisted the Director of Education with managing all certified and non-certified staff, Promoted parent involvement in school activities, Managed the corporate based mentoring program which provided mentors from M&T Bank and Morgan Stanley to over 75 youth, Developed student advisories, student council, clubs and activities, Organized assemblies and special events, Received and assigned suspension referrals, Conducted informal student conferences regarding academic and discipline reports, Established partnerships with mental health organizations, Worked with school staff to research, plan and implement school reform initiatives including professional development on cultural awareness, Formed community partnerships to increase learning and social opportunities for youth, Assisted staff with instructional techniques and classroom management and manage corporate mentoring partnerships.Results - The Crossroads School• Maintained a 95% matriculation rate to college preparatory/private schools for graduates• Developed intervention strategies to increase student achievement• Decreased suspension rates by 75% through implementation of character education and conflict resolution training

Directed and managed a GED and employment placement alternative school for 250 youth from challenging environments between the ages of 16 and 21 in Baltimore City, Balanced a $1.2 million dollar budget formulated by the Workforce Investment Act Federal Grant, Designed and implemented strategies that led to program outcome gains of up to 50%, Wrote grants to supplement funding resources and maintained community-based partnerships for Educate Inc. and the Baltimore City Mayor’s Office of Employment Development.
