During my time at Sunrise Dam Gold Mine, I was exposed to underground and open pit workings. I became responsible for ground movement monitoring for the main open pit and the satellite pit. I became responsible for ground movement monitoring for the main open pit and the satellite pit. When I was underground I was able to gain underground driving experience, and conducted QAQC audits underground and issued Site Instructions.I learnt how to log core as a geotech and assisted with a major site drilling project.I assisted with the design of appropriate support plans for underground drives.I also assisted the survey team with prism installation and the use of drones to identify ground movement in inaccessible areas. Aside from geotech, I was able to gain experience with the mine geology and emergency response teams.I also started a project that helped identify and model a potential structure in one of the active orebodies using seismic data. I was shown how to conduct geological inspections of the longwall face and gate roads to report on the mining conditions and learnt to identify various geological structures. I helped to assess the effectiveness of underground support in various conditions and worked on a project which audited the pre-tension being achieved by our roof bolts when being installed from various machinery.I assisted with drafting underground shot firing plans, facilitated the permit to mine process, analysed geological / geotechnical data, implemented major and minor mine plan changes, and assisted technical-services in their day-to-day tasks. At Kestrel I was exposed to 6 months of underground experience in coal and discovered a passion for mining. I was able to move on from my yellow to orange hat during this time! Show less

I used my leadership skills in this role to train 3 junior bakery staff to become highly productive and manage their tasks with minimal supervision. I used effective time management strategies to help meet rising production goals and to balance work and study.
