Probation Agent
CurrentSupervise offenders on probation, parole and mandatory and conditionally release to the community by order of the courts or the Maryland Parole Commission.Client Management and Communication• Conduct field visits and make routine contact with offenders to determine whether they are complying with the conditions of release. • Implement casework techniques to counsel, encourage, and assist parole and probation clients in adopting socially acceptable behavior patterns for community reintegration. • Obtain samples from offenders and/or test results to detect use of alcohol and/or drugs, ensure compliance with conditions of supervision, and assess progress in reaching goals of the supervision case plan.• Implement tools, training, and experience to ensure compliance with conditions of supervision and/or to maintain the offender in the community minimizing risk to the public.Enforcement and Investigation• Initiate confidential investigations, conduct surveillance, and search for absconded parolees and probationers.• Prepare investigational reports, case records, and progress summaries, recommending action to be taken concerning technical violation of parole and probation rules. • Investigate proposed residence and employment plans and assist persons on parole and probation in making environmental changes, such as finding another residence.Court Activity and Reporting• Testify before the courts in support of recommendations resulting from investigations of client’s conduct. • Develop case planning and risk assessment of offenders, as well as maintain accurate and complete records of offender's behavior and adjustment to supervision. • Create and maintain an official record to document case activity on offenders.• Prepare written reports to the courts and Maryland Parole Commission to advise of changes to an offender's status, the need for a modification of the conditions of supervision, and an offender's failure to comply with conditions of supervision.
