The DLH Foundation was established by the family and friends of Deana LaRae Hamilton Hughes who died from gastro-esophageal cancer. The foundation's goal is to help other gastro-esophageal cancer patients and their families who are battling this disease. We offer support through an ever changing website with the purpose of serving as a compass for a newly diagnosed patients and their families. We also offer scholarships to family members who are affected by the disease. Each year we support our foundation through an annual fundraiser. While at the DLH Foundation, I: -Successfully planned the 2013 fundraising event where we were able to increase annual attendance from 120-180 by creating a sponsorship program and helping procure sponsors-Increased funds raised by over 33%-Converted the database to Nthropy, a nonprofit entity of Salesforce-Created a monthly e-newsletter informing the community about our efforts-Updated the website to be an all encompassing and relevant resource that can be used for patients and caregivers-Raised awareness of our organization by meeting with UCSD, Sharp, the San Diego Gastroenterologist Society and other foundations with similar missions-Chaired and run meetings of foundation volunteers-Promoted and awarded scholarships to deserving candidates meeting the criteria of the foundation-Created promotional material for the foundation and the fundraising event including a tri-fold and event brochure-Solicited donations and organized a silent and online auction

I was a buyer in Mens Accessories and Furnishings. My job was to purchase merchandise, manage inventory, communicate with vendors and managers and negotiate price for over 230 stores. I managed a team of three and was able to lead my assistant to an internal promotion. As a buyer for a discount store, it was my responsibility to negotiate with vendors for premium merchandise at a discounted price.I was able to achieve merit increases for each review period as well as bonuses for hitting sales goals 75% of the time.
