I graduated from Washington State University with my BSN in December of 2015. I started working on a Cardiac Transplant Unit in February of 2016 at Providence Sacred Heart in Spokane Washington. I served on that unit filling roles of relief charge nurse, new hire preceptor, student practicum preceptor and code nurse for the unit. I spent two and a half years on this unit before pursing my dream job of working in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the same hospital. I was hired there in September of 2018. I have now served in the PICU for almost six years. I was quickly trained to recover open heart patients from the OR directly to the PICU. I then received training to run CRRT Dialysis machines on the unit. I began training to work as the bedside nurse for ECLS patients and then served on the ECLS team from 2023-2024. I became a charge nurse for the unit in 2021. I have learned many things throughout my nine years of being a nurse. Some of the most important have been in the wake of Covid in 2020. I had to learn how to train new hires who were graduating with little to no bedside training as most spent their time with simulations at school due to lockdowns during Covid. I have had to learn what it means to be a mindful and emotionally intelligent leader in an environment that can stretch and push even the most seasoned PICU nurse to the breaking point of emotions and stress. I strive to lead by example and to be aware of not only my own thoughts and emotions throughout shifts but those of my coworkers. I have to have a pulse on how they are doing and some are vocal about it while others are less so. These years of service and experience have opened up a new opportunity for me in pursuing my Masters of Nursing Education to become a Nursing Professor. I currently serve two universities as a pediatric clinical instructor and absolutely love teaching and sharing my passion with the students.
