I've been working as a freelance writer for many years. I write fiction, both for kids and adults, and journalism about the arts. I've had 11 original picture books published, 1 middle grade novel, 1 novel for adults, and numerous commercial children's projects such as novelizations and writing for popular series. I have staff editorial experience in both books (Scholastic) and magazines (Sesame Workshop), and have taught writing at the college level at both The New School University ("Writing for Children") and in the MFA Illustration Dept. at School of VIsual Arts.I've worked for numerous non-profits, including Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Writers Room, and The Apollo Theater, where I've done research, writing, grant writing, and development work.My original academic training was in child development and early childhood education. I started my work life as a teacher, and still love the connection between literature and education.
