During this internship, I studied the role of IFN-γ in infection-induced inflammation, focusing on caspaseactivity and inflammasomes in human macrophages. I contributed to research aimed at identifyingnew therapeutic targets for Mtb infections. This internship was part of the INFLANET project, a MarieSkłodowska-Curie Training Network, focused on the role of inflammation in tuberculosis, under the supervisionof Prof. Dr. A.H. Meijer. Using a combination of confocal microscopy and Western blotting, Idemonstrated that GBPs can detect mycobacteria in macrophages and do so in a hierarchical manner.Additionally, I developed a novel algorithm to quantify the number of invading pathogens in a cell in 3D.This algorithm is now widely used throughout the lab for faster data analysis. My contributions to thisproject will be included in a future scientific publication.

I investigated novel antibiotics against Gram-positive bacteria. I contributed to elucidating the interactionmechanism of a new class of PolC-inhibiting antibiotics using various techniques, including polymeraseactivity assays, HPLC protein purification, various cloning techniques, PCR, and gel electrophoresis. Theresearch project was a collaboration between the Department of Medical Microbiology at LUMC andAcurX. Biweekly, I presented my work to the board of AcurX.
