Maybe you find yourself asking these questions:- Is it really that great I can use it to make pretty much everything?- Is it able to produce my parts?- Which metal 3D printing method do I need specifically?- What about precision and roughness?- Can I use any metal powder?- How to choose the system to have everything I will need?- Isn't it a pure economical nonsense?Lets begin this way:- There is no metal 3D printing method applicable for everything. They are just another production technologies. They have their possibilities and limits you must be aware of.- We will take a look at your parts and suggest changes if needed. It is necessary to follow technological rules. It gets much easier if you can modify the part geometry.- The right technology depends on typical shape, material, required mechanical properties, production volume and other conditions.- It is basically a metal powder welding. You should add an offset to tolerated surfaces for finishing operations.- The system producer has its own material portfolio. They have process parameters tuned for those materials. Process parameter development for other materials is up to you. The powder must have specific geometry and must be weldable.- Materials and dimensions are the key parameters when selecting the machine. Other values are not as important. They are adjusted for optimal overall performance according to the size and physics. You should care more about quality control, maintenance intervals, material exchange downtime and ease of use.- If you plan real additive production, it is time to calculate costs.
