The last 17 years I have been actively involved as an engineer and project manager in the offshore and shipbuilding (dredging) sectors.I have developed various technical innovative designs for the transport and installation of wind turbines and foundations as well as the designs of ships and offshore platforms. My work was mainly focused on structural- and (hydro)mechanical-engineering as well as (hydraulic & electrical) drive systems.

Decisive in this respect are the dynamics of dredging installations due to ship motions in seastate. Ship motions are calculated using the software Octopus Seaway. For the dynamics calculations on marine structures and dredging systems Framework and time-series simulations in Excel have been used.Also dynamics calculations for lifting, sinking- and landing processes of ROVs in deepwater operations, using heave compensators, have been carried out. In close consultation with the Business Units a new design of a backhoe dredger and a dredging installation for mining operations have been examined and engineered using Octopus Seaway modeling software.For the purpose of stabilizing a pipeline in deep seawater a concept design of a ROV, equipped with a drilling rig, have been defined, whereby piles can be drilled and anchored in a rock seabed. Project Coordination and Control, and initiation of innovative solutions in dredging and offshore projects also belonged to my tasks. -

Forces on the piles are based on Morison’s equations. The finite element program Framework have been used for making the static and dynamic structural calculations. The fatique design of the piles and topside of the platform are based on DNV standards. The soil boundary conditions in the pile-soil interaction were based on SNAME standards.The strength of the steel structures of the separate platform components are calculated using the Ansys FEM module, included in Inventor.The dynamic motions of the platform in heavy seas have been carried out using Delfrac (TU Delft) and MATLAB. For diminishing the loads on the piles during landing procedures of the platform on the seabed a damping- and spring system have been developed and patented.

The static structural calculations of the jacket and topside are carried out using STAAD as a finite element program. The dynamic response of the offshore structure under influence of mass inertia, wave-, wind- and current forces is calculated according to SNAME standards. The strength and stability of the jacket foundation on the seabed is calculated by means of soil mechanics according to API standards.Static structural calculations on a wheel construction according to DIN standards, using MathCAD.
