As Maintenance Fitter I am responsible for carrying out the maintenance of all fabric manufacturing & laminating equipment & machinery to keep the plant running at peak performance with minimum to zero breakdowns, fine-tuning the equipment to achieve optimum results & reducing breakdowns by carrying out thorough inspections, & when ensuring downtime is kept to a minimum when mechanical failures occur, in order for production teams to meet production targets. • In my current position, I also take on the role of Maintenance Callout Technician to aid Fitters on duty with issues of a high technical level.• Checking prepared components for accuracy & alignment, using measuring instruments, testing assembled articles in the workshop to ensure accuracy of fit & marking out stock to be shaped & formed into metal parts by other workers.• Drilling holes & tapping threads for bolting parts together, & assembling parts & sub-assemblies, as well as cleaning & lubricating assembled articles.• Cutting, threading, bending & installing hydraulic & pneumatic pipes & lines, shrink-fitting parts during assembly using oxyacetylene torches & presses & assembling non-metallic parts.• Erecting & installing machinery & equipment on-site, & tasked with infrastructure maintenance including air, water, thermal boilers & cooling towers, as well as steam boilers. • Maintaining records & schedules of preventative maintenance, liaising with production departments & doing regular inspections of machines to ensure safe working conditions & attending to breakdowns efficiently to minimise downtime.• Training new staff & apprentices, as well as allocating staff to standby schedules & preventative maintenance schedules.• Ensuring all SHE policies & procedures are adhered to, maintaining the critical inspection register or certifications registry & writing policies & procedures for machinery.• Attending to general administration & managing staff in the maintenance department.

• In my final position as Mechanical Chargehand, I was tasked with the day to day supervision of & assisting 9 fitters & 14 maintenance workers to ensure the plant was running efficiently & that there were no or low risks that could lead to potential breakdowns. • This was enforced by managing plant maintenance, thorough inspections for plant reliability & ensuring quick action & stock on hand when issues arose.• Supervised & assisted the maintenance team on new installations, servicing of machines & diagnosing & attending to repairs & breakdowns, as well as attending to after hour call-outs. • Conducting diagnostic testing on malfunctioning systems to determine the root cause of the malfunction, & replaced damaged or defective structural components as needed. • Analysed the blueprints for mechanical systems to determine the specifications of the components to be constructed or replaced.• Tested assemble & repaired systems, equipment & machinery to ensure they were in good & safe working order.• Performed day-to-day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files & processing paperwork.• Ordered consumables, spares & workshop materials & liaised with suppliers & courier companies & managed the collection & delivery logistics.• Acted as liaison between 3rd party contractors & suppliers, the workshop, production department, administration department & employees, & attended to staff wage payments in the absence of the Maintenance Foreman.• Adhered to all work-site safety rules & regulations.
