Negotiating with the relevant developers their scope of supply to achieve the business case. Managing local and International suppliers, developers and consultants (including tender documents, tender evaluations, design documents, development specifications, etc.) on behalf of the client. Ensuring that all client capital expenditures relevant to the facilities falls below budget and technically complies. Ensuring that all milestones on the project plan are met. Lead the value engineering effort to ensure optimum functionality within the allocated budget.

Joined DHL as Deputy General Manager for the Johannesburg Unilever dedicated warehouse. Duties initially entailed: Assisting Unilever in developing the Business Processes for the dedicated warehouses. Developing the Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions for the dedicated warehouses. Assisting Unilever in snagging and commissioning the dedicated warehouse facilities. Did the Warehouse Management UAT (user acceptance testing) at the dedicated warehouses. Did the DILO (day in life off) testing at the Johannesburg facility. Interviewed and recruited the operations team (managers and supervisors). Did facility go-live readiness check list. Managed the operationally readiness side of the project.Main duties: Managing the full warehouse operations with approximately 300 staff members (permanent and labour broker). Ensuring a smooth cut over from testing phase to a fully operational distribution centre. Managing the customer (Unilever) expectations and KPI’s of operational budget and throughputs.

Tracking and improving relevant KPI’s. Managing the Raw & Packaging divisionMajor achievements: Reducing stock losses from over 10% per month to less than 1% per month. Improving the Supply Chain Division from a “Not satisfactory” external audit to “Satisfactory” within 1 year after taking over. Reducing expenditure from 20% over to within budget within 1 year after taking over. Improving customer service levels nationally from 75% to 97% within 1 year of taking over.

Joined Nestle (South Africa) Pty Ltd as Project Manager: Supply Chain. Completed a R153 Mio project, building a CDC for Nestlé at Longmeadow, within time and budget (as the Project Manager in September 2003).Completed extending and upgrading the DC in Bellville, Cape Town (R 13 Mio) in November 2004.Implemented Best Practices according to Nestlé Global Template to prepare the Distribution Centres for switch over to SAP.Involved with the materials handling configuration of the Distribution Centres within SAP. Support to the DC’s on materials handling (WMS) in SAP during configuration, testing and go-live. Responsible for training specific people at the DC’s on a specific section of SAP WMS. Responsible for monitoring specific areas of the DC’s, after go-live, within SAP. Generated reports within SAP to monitor certain aspects of the DC’s.Recently (Oct 2005) completed extending and upgrading the DC in New Germany, Durban (R 20 Mio).Function also included: Implementing preventative maintenance plans at the DC’s. Implementing Health, Safety and Environmental Plans at DC’s. Developing Master Plans for the DC’s. Continuous productivity improvement within the DC’s. Investigations into and action plans to improve the factory warehouses. Technical assistance of overall engineering kind to all DC’s and warehouses. Responsible for the compilation of the capital expenditure budget for Supply Chain and also future capital expenditure planning within Supply Chain.From beginning of 2006 the function of Materials Handling Business Excellence Manager was also added to my job description. This involved ensuring that all sites (factories and DC’s) operate according Nestlé MH best practices.
