I look after the civil engineering team for Tonkin + Taylor, which consists of approximately 80 staff across NZ.I also am a project director and manager on a number of projects across the country, with a focus on renewables and other multi-disciplinary design projects.

Enercon GmbH is the leading Wind Turbine manufacturer in Germany and in Europe. My role with Enercon is as part of the Project Management Team. I provide Geotechnical support through all phases of the projects, as well as running, organising and managing a lot of the Engineering work involved prior to commencing the Civil Works. This means communicating between Clients, Geotechnical Engineers doing the ground investigations, pile designers as well as the entire Enercon team. I am currently in charge of the English speaking world (Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand), meaning I deal with a large variety of different people and different issues. Enercon is a relatively young company and currently experiences a huge amount of growth. This means that a lot of management systems and communication channels are not yet developed. I am given a relatively free range, and therefore work hard to establish these systems and channels in my regions.

In January 2011 I changed departments from the Water Resources Department to the Geotechnical Department at Tonkin & Taylor in Auckland. In the Geotechnical Department my worked complement the dam work I had previously done in the Water Resources Department, and gave me a sound understanding of Geotechnical Engineering. I ran my own projects, undertook detailed design of retaining walls, analysed settlement potential for industrial buildings, undertook site inspections and did geotechnical inspections using a variety of different techniques.

My work largely centred around pre-feasibility studies of potential hydro electricity schemes, which included risk analysis, client liaison and work with financial models. I also did detailed stability analysis of dams, and looking at ways to stabilize these dams.
