I lead the development and implementation of agronomic research and information, product testing, training and agronomic services to build product and technology excellence in South Asia and Southeast Asia. Product Testing, Advancement & Deployment: Develop Areas of Adaptation (AOAs) and Product Concepts to characterize environments and farmer management practices to support product development for specific market segments. Design and implement a system of trials to support effective product advancement, positioning and deployment and develop product confidence for hybrids/varieties, biotech traits, and seed treatments. Agronomic Service:Design and execute an Agronomy Service model to provide helpful management advice to farmers that helps them to maximize their profit. Work closely with Regional Marketing, Product Strategy and Regional Business functions to align the service model with the local business strategy. Technology Launch:Drive successful launch of new technologies - biotech traits, silage, seed treatments, drought-tolerant products, etc., and provide regional biotech leadership in education, training, introduction and trait durability activities. Capability Building:Coach regional agronomy resources utilizing best practices, experiences and assessments. Serve as connection point and aggregated best practices into holistic regional systems. Continuously improve processes and share best practices outside the Asia region.

Secure regulatory approvals for biotech products in line with strategic and business objectives. Plan, coordinate and execute research studies for the purpose of generating robust scientific data and analytical samples required to support risk assessments, regulatory approvals or development of stewardship package of Pioneer’s biotech products. Develop and implement product stewardship plans and monitor processes to ensure compliance with permit conditions and Pioneer protocols for regulated biotech products. Identify, build, enhance and leverage relationships with key stakeholders (farmer groups, academe, national and local government, regulators, food/feed chain, seed industry, civil society groups) and develop short-term and strategic engagement and outreach programs.

My main goal was to ensure the development and stewardship of Monsanto technologies including seeds, chemistry and biotechnology to meet business goals. Prioritise and plan for new products and technologies and evaluate for their agronomic fit and commercial viability and allocate resources to deliver commercial pipeline.Provide technical support to ensure successful adoption through training, module development and delivery and ensured appropriate technical stewardship of seed, trait and chemistry products by making sure that all commercial material released is vetted for its validity.Ensure a strong interface with the scientific and regulatory community to support Freedom to Operate, get inputs on various technical issues, and keep track of the latest trends in the industry globally.Participate in the Country Leadership Team (CLT), Crop Team and Asia-Pacific Technology Development Leadership Council (TDLC) to assure alignment of the TD directions with county and regional goals, annual plans and long range plans, and provide connectivity across the region.

Trait Development:Took a lead role on the regulatory field testing, technical development, commercial introduction and stewardship of corn trait products (Roundup Ready corn, YieldGard and Stacked traits); explore market opportunities; determine value and develop value proposition; design and implement training programs and support commercial team capture business opportunities for corn traits. Building Excellence:Led the Building Excellence Program (techno-commercial competency) and served as subject matter expert and trainer in Asia-Pacific region. Product Stewardship:Led the chemistry stewardship working group of Monsanto Philippines. Member of the Asia-Pacific Roundup Working Group. Developed weed resistance management strategy and stewardship operations plan for Roundup herbicide in Roundup Ready corn in the Philippines. Developed and operationalized a process to document, investigate and resolve customer inquiries related to product quality, product performance and customer service.

Capture market value and enhance competitive advantage by continuously revitalizing product portfolio in seeds, traits and chemistry business. Contribute in enhancing the techno-commercial skills and competencies of commercial team and provide support to grow chemistry, seeds and traits business. Support initiatives to develop new markets utilizing the strength of entire technology portfolio.

Marketing Communications:Significantly contribute to profitability and increase in market shares of key products in various crop-market segments through the development and implementation of marketing campaigns and national advertising and promotional strategies and programs. Corporate Communications:Build credible corporate public image through active stakeholders’ networking and public relations. Successfully launched Aventis CropScience and Bayer CropScience both internally and externally after mergers and acquisitions. Customer Network Management:Managed the Aventis Kaugnay Key Farmer Network (1600 rice-based and 100 corn-based farmers). Major programs implemented through the Key Farmer Network include the promotion of safe and judicious use of crop protection products, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Integrated Crop Management (ICM). Developed Farmer ICM Manuals for Rice. Corporate Responsibility:Member of the Aventis Global “Stewardship-IPM/ICM-Food Chain” network and championed country initiatives on product stewardship, IPM and ICM. Member of the IPM committee and Chair of the Communications committee of the Crop Protection Association of the Philippines (presently CropLife Philippines).

Prepare field project and development plan and steer implementation of insecticide, eco-toxicological, and biotechnology projects; and conduct research work involving the screening, development and commercialization of insecticides and biotechnology products. Create protocols, initiate trials and experimentation, evaluate treatments, provide regular updates on on-going trials and prepare reports on finished studies.

Terms of Reference:Conceptualize, formulate and finalize Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) research design and strategies for the ecology modules. Characterize past, present and future baseline environmental conditions of project impact area with and without the proposed development project; identify probable impacts of the project; and recommend viable and detailed mitigation measures and a scheme to monitor the impact mitigating measures. Review and discuss environmental regulations and standards vis-à-vis the module responsible for and the project and ensure that outputs are consistent to all statutes that define the Philippine EIA System.
