Most people do not like Math. Not only do I enjoy Math, I enjoy working students, especially teenagers and young adults. Math comes difficult to many people. I believe you need to get to know each student individually to learn their strengths, interests and weaknesses. Once you know their interests it can be used to show them how Math can be used in everyday life. As a tutor, I try and uses each students strengths to help them overcome their weaknesses and become a successful Math student. I tutor students to improve their Math grade, pass entrance tests or help work on skills need for further job placements. One of my last students was a volleyball player. She was struggling with trying to solve a math problem to see if the value was increasing or decreasing. I used a volleyball to show her what happens if you drop it from a certain height and measured the bounces that followed. This really helped her understand that the function was decreasing. Not only did this make our tutoring session fun, it helped her understanding and how to remember the concept.I do most my tutoring at the Public library closest to my students home. If there is a special need I will tutor at the students home or in my own home. If interested in getting some information about being tutored, please email me at winchelltutor@gmail.com.
