I was part of the team that dealt with the revision of the EU Emissions Trading System throughout the full three year cycle of the legislative process. This covered work ranging from policy development (analytical work related to the impact assessment) to supporting the legislative debates in parliament and council, and the trilogue negotiations that culminated in the agreement on the revision of the legal framework for emissions trading for 2021-2030. My work focussed in particular on elements of the legislation linked to the strengthening of the ETS system and the funds for low carbon investments in innovation and modernisation of the energy sector. As a research intern with the Dutch Energy Regulator, I completed a research project aimed at quantifying the consequences of potential congestion management methods for the Central West European electricity transmission networks of the Netherlands and Germany for a range of plausible scenarios.

As an intern during the summer of 2006, I investigated the potential for and barriers to investment in emissions reductions projects under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) in the Caribbean region. The project was carried out on location at the Environmental Management Agency of Trinidad and Tobago.
