Growing up in a country with high unemployment rates, I learned early on that career choices could shape my financial future. My focus was on academic excellence, aiming for a spot at a reputable university. My natural affinity for numbers, combined with my father's career as an auditor, set me on a path toward accounting.The journey to achieving my CA(SA) qualification was challenging, as I had limited insight into how I would fit into the role once I stepped into the practical environment. However, this concern proved unnecessary when I began my role as an audit trainee at EY and discovered my passion for the field.My innate curiosity, which earned me the nickname 'Miss Questionmark' as a child, along with my ability to connect with people, helped me thrive. I quickly took on leadership roles, guiding teams through various audit engagements and consistently exceeding expectations. I passed both my board exams on my first attempt and truly enjoyed the practical aspects of my work.Most of my clients were in the retail industry, which gave me the opportunity to gain behind-the-scenes insights into businesses I had frequented since childhood. I found it fascinating to learn about the intricacies involved in managing these operations. The implementation of IFRS 15 and IFRS 16 was particularly rewarding, as it enabled me to apply my technical knowledge in real-world scenarios.Now, six years into my career, I have audit experience across three countries, collaborating with a diverse range of clients in retail, financial services, and technology. My exposure to various control frameworks, including JSOX, has deepened my understanding of compliance and risk management.I am eager to leverage my skills and insights to contribute to a dynamic organization.
