Growing up, the first thing I knew for sure was that wherever I went in my career, I would advocate for marginalized voices in any capacity available. I believe I was called to mental health because of my own experiences learning toi destigmatize my own mental health needs. This led me to music therapy, a path that reminds everyone creativity and expression has a place in the care of clients and patients.I am early in my career and have more space to grow, but I am also aware of the skills I’ve built inside and outside of the music therapy career path. Building rapport with clients and other stakeholder is not only a pleasure but a proficient skill I have utilized wherever I go. While it hasn’t always been required roles I’ve had the privilege of working, I always go beyond in my assessments, determining social strengths and barriers related to clients’ sociocultural identities, and how these can affect care as well as conclusion of care. I’ve had the opportunities to build personalized community resource plans for clients based on these factors as well as any interests clients hold dear.In my field I have published peer reviewed research within a year of completing my undergraduate work. I am on my way to publish more in a grown area of centering Black and POC voices. I hope to continue to grow and flourish in my skills wherever I go.
