A lot of my experience has been centered around education and working for recreation departments in two different cities. I started working for recreation departments (managing sports games, teaching swim lessons, etc.) when I was 15 years old. What I don't think some people realize is that working for a government department is similar to working for a business. The people of the city who participate in the programs available are customers that we have to work with on a daily basis. I have learned how to talk and communicate with people from all walks of life because of this. I have also been developing teaching skills from a very young age. In high school I would teach swim and piano lessons to friends. In college I became a physics and math tutor as well as continuing to teach swim. As a teacher you learn patience and how to communicate more clearly something that might be completely new to someone else. I have also learned how to deal professionally with people that might be angry with me or disagree with something I might have done. I have a degree in French Studies and minored in Mathematics; after I graduated I spent two years working at a French immersion elementary school in Provo. After having my second child I decided that I really enjoyed teaching math and went back to pursue that goal. Part of my Undergraduate degree was spent in France doing a study abroad program through BYU. This was one of my best experiences because I was able to discover one of my passions which is travel and learning about other cultures. I travelled to six other countries while I was there and was able to develop a love for the arts and for cultures.
