Jana M. Giles is Professor in English literature at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, with extensive experience in teaching, research, service, and leadership. Her current research centers on colonial and postcolonial writing and the discourse of the sublime that engages the intersections of aesthetics, politics, ethics, and affect.Giles is an award-winning, internationally published writer, scholar, and translator whose work has appeared in academic publications as well as literary magazines and general newspapers, including The New York Times Book Review. In 2018, she received the Awards to Louisiana Artists and Scholars for her book project Decolonizing the Sublime. Since 2016, she has served as the Managing Editor for Conradiana, and in 2022 she was elected to the Board of Trustees, both for the Joseph Conrad Society of America. She has also served on the board of the Masur Museum of Art in Monroe, Louisiana.Giles teaches courses ranging from an editorial internship in her capacity as the Managing Editor of Conradiana, to graduate courses on nineteenth-, twentieth- and twenty-first century Global Anglophone and British literature as well as literary theory and criticism. She has also taught numerous writing courses, both composition and creative writing.In addition to her academic experience, Giles has worked in public relations, publishing, retail, and the software industry. She is fluent in Spanish.
