I am an experienced communications, research, and evaluation professional with a background in academic, nonprofit, and policy work in the U.S. and Europe. With a PhD in Communication and Media (University of Michigan) and a dual high-honors degree in Global Development and Communication with certificates in Indigenous Studies and Social Inequality Studies from Cornell University, I am well-equipped to address complex challenges in these areas. I have deepened my knowledge of media policy through completion of the Global Media Policy Institute at the University of Oxford and a Consortium of Media Policy Studies Fellowship in Washington, D.C., where I worked on U.S. rural broadband policy with the National Digital Inclusion Alliance. For my PhD dissertation, I led a 5-year community-based participatory research study on the importance of Indigenous radio with the Hopi Tribe in the desert of Arizona and Yup’ik communities in remote Alaskan villages. I am a former invited expert of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues and remain committed to supporting Indigenous media globally. Formerly an award-winning university instructor, I currently work full-time as the Head of Communications of the Bergen Centre for Ethics and Priority Setting in Health, a Research Council of Norway Centre of Excellence at the University of Bergen.In addition, I founded Bergen Communications, through which I offer strategic communications consulting and training for start-ups, businesses, and non-profit/cultural organizations. Since 2016, I have been a board member of the 35 million USD grant-making Indigenous-led foundation Hopi Education Endowment Fund. I am also in the process of establishing my own non-profit in Norway.
