I am responsible for the financial management of the Innovator Trust which includes investing enterprise development funds in shares for return; setting up and managing all the financial operations of the trust; making sure funds are available and disbursed to our incubator partners for small business development and reporting monthly to our enabling partner Vodacom.

My duties included managing all aspects of both core and non-core business of Vodacom, preparing all the various financial reports, Board Reports, Annual Reports and implementing key systems and processes. The position called for loading and using the Hyperion system, preparation of annual budgets and forecasts and then monthly financial reviews against these forecasts. In addition I assisted the auditors during interim and year end audits, managed inter-company transactions and worked on SAP implementation in the company as well as the SOX compliance project.

Working for a brewery (not as much fun as you all think!) I was responsible for the Head Office and 10 breweries consolidated financial accounting; including reconciliations and trouble shooting and fixed asset accounting. A key role was managing and reporting on the daily cash flow, petty cash and bank recons as well as VAT returns and Tax returns in conjunction with Deloitte. The role also required me to provide information to Statistics South Africa and South African Reserve Bank and to control and manage investments in terms of maize futures.

I was working on a contract basis at the Auditor General through Accountants-On-Call.I was assisting them with the interim audit for the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development. My duties included the managing and auditing of all personnel cost at the Department and the reviewing of the trainees’ work before final review.

AccountingI was responsible for the preparation of small and medium sized Close Corporation Annual Financial Statements for this chartered accounting firm. During this time I worked on many different companies - from small computer companies, to property developers and agents, to electrical wholesalers and manufacturing companies. My role was to checking and correcting the processing on a financial system done by the client, to processing clients’ books from bank statements, conducting VAT reconciliations and producing Annual Financial Statements. I also assisted small business to plan and structure the most optimal taxation position. I was also in charge of numerous small and medium year-end and interim audits of private companies during my articles.

I worked here while I was studying part time under the guidance and mentorship of a wonderful woman manager learning to manage people and helping set up financial transactions and processes.
