I began my nursing career as a staff nurse in the OR at a large level 1 trauma center in Denver before becoming the manager of perioperative services at another sister hospital, also located in Denver. In addition, I helped open a multi-specialty surgery center from ground-breaking through its first years of operation where I served as their clinical director. I was also employed as the administrator at a physician-owned, office-based plastic surgery center. In addition to my years in health care, I have several years' experience in healthcare risk management and professional liability and have done extensive teaching to both the nursing and medical staff on risk management and medical ethics. I recently retired from the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) as the Director of the Ambulatory Surgery Division. I serve on the Board of Directors for the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and I am also an ambulatory surgery center surveyor for the same organization. I am CNOR(E), CASC, and CNAMB certified. I am an active member of both AORN and ASHRM. I have served as a medical volunteer on two medical mission trips: one to Trujillo, Peru and a second to Chichicastenaga, Guatemala.
