Dr. Dommerholt has published 4 books (several have been translated into Farsi, French, Spanish), nearly 80 textbook chapters, and more than 140 articles on myofascial pain, chronic pain conditions, fibromyalgia, complex regional pain syndrome, and whiplash. Dr. Dommerholt has authored several articles on performing arts physical therapy and contributed chapters to leading medical textbooks on performing arts medicine. He is an internationally recognized expert in dry needling. In 2014, he received the Henry O. and Florence P. Practice Award from the American Physical Therapy Association in recognition of his many contributions to the advancement of the field of physical therapy. He is an Honorary Member of the Iranian Physiotherapy Association and of the Polish Association of Invasive Physiotherapy. In 2016, he received the Janet G. Travell Excellence in Education Award from the National Association of Myofascial Trigger Point Therapists.Dr. Dommerholt has completed the training program in Whiplash and Brain Injury Traumatology by the Spine Research Institute of San Diego, which, in addition to his Master in Biomechanical Trauma, qualifies him as an expert in whiplash mechanisms. He frequently testifies in court.Dr. Dommerholt has taught many courses and lectured at conferences throughout the United States, Europe, South America, and the Middle East while maintaining an active clinical practice. He has been an invited (keynote) speaker at many conferences by the American Academy of Orofacial Pain, the International Pelvic Pain Society, the World Congress on Low Back and Pelvic Pain, the International Myopain Society, the Fascia Research Society, among many others.Dr. Dommerholt served as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies until 2021, and is on the editorial advisory boards of the Journal of Manual and Manipulative Therapy, Cuestiones de Fisioterapia, and the Journal of Invasive Therapies in Physical Therapy. He is a frequent reviewer of submitted articles for many journals.
