About Jacob Newman
I am passionate about educational and employment equity. I believe that higher education and meaningful employment can change the world. At the English Skills Learning Center (ESLC), I coordinated English language classes with a focus on educational access and career preparation. We taught our clients—primarily first-generation immigrants and refugees—how to succeed on job applications, resumes, interviews, and more. Within a few short weeks our students could obtain meaningful employment to support their families and integrate into our community. I joined the Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority (UHEAA) as a Community Outreach Specialist to promote equity in college access and financial aid. In this role I managed outreach to prospective college students across Utah. I am most proud of managing the NCAN FAFSA Completion Grant. With this $40K grant I recruited, trained, and managed near-peer staff to increase FAFSA completion by 2.6%. Our efforts led to an additional $10K award and national recognition for “Excellence in Training and Professional Development.” I got my first taste of traditional recruiting when I joined the Eccles Business School at the University of Utah in Business Career Services. In this role I mentored and recruited graduate and undergraduate talent in the Information Systems (IS), Operation/Supply Chain (OSC), and other programs to fill part- and full-time employment with our corporate partners based on client needs and student talent using targeted marketing and one-on-one outreach. In my most recent role as Technical Recruiter at SimpleNexus, I owned full-cycle recruitment for all technical positions in software engineering from initial sourcing to final offer and salary negotiation. I hired an average of 3– 4 software engineers, engineering managers, or other technical roles per month in close coordination with hiring managers, directors, and vice presidents. I managed sourcing pipelines and job postings in Paycor (ATS/HRIS) and LinkedIn Recruiter to successfully sourced top talent, often with a less than 30-day fill time.My skill at connecting with people from diverse backgrounds, presenting complex information to a variety of audiences, and managing fast-moving processes have led me to thrive in the world of recruiting. I’m delighted to bring the skills I’ve learned working at all stages of talent development—from college access to corporate recruitment—to build new and maintain existing talent pipelines, develop innovative sourcing strategies, and own the full-cycle recruitment process for Zions Bancorporation.
