I adapted to a new culture, and had lots of fun.

I grew my auditor mindset and became a pension actuarial specialist to the (accounting) audit teams. Also led some fun and interesting consulting projects for clients across Canada. I found meaning in supporting and leading greater company initiatives related to gender equity (predominantly), but also sustainability, recruitment/onboarding, and charitable causes.

I became an auditor and saw things from the other side. Instead of focusing on the day-to-day pension calculations, I focused on the big picture - what is reported on the financial statement relating to pensions, how is it done, and why it matters. I also assisted with due diligence projects on human capital issues in corporate transactions; I realized the impact of pensions on the financial world.

I oversaw the work I did as a technical assistant and managed projects start to finish. More importantly, I helped technical assistants grow.

I grew my pension actuarial technical knowledge in assisting small to mid-sized Canadian clients with their private pension plans. We help to establish them, maintain them, and wind them up. I personally assisted with countless pension calculations (on termination, retirement, disability, marriage breakdown, and annual year-end reporting, across Canada), pension plan valuations (DB/OPEB plans, for funding, solvency, wind-up, accounting purposes) and group annuity purchases (buy-in/outs).
