Experienced Associate Professor with a demonstrated track record in the higher education industry. Skilled in Healthcare Research, Science, Teaching, Education, and University Leadership. My research is mixed methods focusing on older people experiencing the complexities of later life. I am particularly interested in understanding people/patient experiences and using these to develop and test multidisciplinary interventions. My mixed methods skills facilitate developing and testing these complex interventions in programmes of work culminating in clinical trials. i'm currently leading two NIHR programme grants developing and testing complex interventions for people with dementia and their families CareCaoch and SPLENDID.As a physiotherapist I have an interest in respiratory physiotherapy practice. I led a project developing competency assessment and an education tool for physiotherapists working on-call. This led to publication of a text for students and newly qualified physiotherapist. Emergency Respiratory Physiotherapy (Elsevier 2021) is now in its 3rd edition. this innovation won the UK Awards for Allied Health Professionals and Healthcare scientists and for excellence in learning, teaching, development or mentorship 2006 and the British Thoracic Society Silver Jubilee Award for Innovation in the secondary respiratory care setting 2007.I was part of the award winning team who delivered training for thousands of health care professions forced to work on critical care during the COVID pandemic. Led by Brunel university in collaboration 3NN and HEE won the Intensive Care Society Innovation award and was Highly Commended in the HSJ awards for Partnerships

Associate ProfessorUniversity Of East Anglia 1996 - Nov 2024Faculty Of Medicine And Health SciencesAs a Senior Lecturer at University of East Anglia my research interests are mixed methods research in to long term conditions within acute care and the community.I have been Chief Investigator for the HTA funded randomised controlled trial, MATREX, which investigated the clinical and cost effectiveness of Manual Chest Physiotherapy and The Festivals Trial - Research funded by the Stroke Association investigating the efficacy and acceptability of functional Strength Training for people who have had a stroke at least six months ago. Current research is primarily related to services for older people, people with dementia, and chronic illness. I led the intervention development and impimentation work packages of the Peri-operative Enhanced Recovery hip FracturE Care of paTiEnts with Dementia-"PERFECTED" NIHR programme grant. I now have 2 NIHR programme grants that I am leading - one developing and testing an intervention for the families of people newly diagnosed with dementia and the other developing and testing a pathway for people with dementia and their significant others to have equal access and opportunity to social prescribingCourse Director for Physiotherapy BSc Hons 2001-06, Director of Teaching 2006 - 2008, Head of School for Allied Health Professions 2008-10.
