About Jane Davis

As the Vice President for Access and Digital Services at Linda Hall Library, I have more than 20 years of experience in library and information science, with a focus on science, engineering, and technology research. I hold a PhD in public history and a MLIS in cataloging, which equip me with the knowledge and skills to manage, preserve, and disseminate diverse and valuable collections. I am passionate about advancing the library's mission to foster learning, discovery, and innovation.In my current role, I lead a team of professionals who are responsible for the technical services, digital initiatives, preservation, and stacks management departments, ensuring the quality, accuracy, and accessibility of the library's resources. I also oversee the development and implementation of digital library projects. I leverage my expertise in historical research, oral history, cataloging, and digital library management to create, update, and enhance the library's catalog and digital collections, following the best practices and standards in the field. I enjoy collaborating with a talented and dedicated team that shares my vision and values for improving the library's services and impact.

    I researched the development of contraband camps for freed slaves during the Civil War throughout the southeast and in the St. Louis area. While Gen. Butler coined the term "contraband" to refer to fugitive slaves that came into Union lines to seek refuge, Gen. Grant actively worked to incorporate the former slaves into the Army life both as support staff and eventually as soldiers. During the internship I produced an article for Confluence magazine and worked on an exhibit for future use.

In doing so, I also acted as backup System Administrator for Voyager clients and provided technical support for Collection Management, including Windows updates, hardware installation and software issues.To assist Collection Management by providing better information about the library's holdings, I created and provided Access reports to all of Collection Management and other library departments for evaluation of the library collection and library effectiveness.I also advised and coordinated the Implementation Committee on database cleanup and correction issues that need to be resolved prior to the implantation of the new Innovative ILS.I acted as primary for data extraction of bibliographic information for importation into new Innovative ILS and was responsible for solving problems in the extraction and importation as they arose.
