Lead User Researcher
I lead and oversee the planning, design and implementation of user research activity at CALM. I ensure that CALM is building a deep understanding of its audience, enabling the optimal design and improvement of its products and services. This involves leading on primary and secondary research activities, research operations, ethics and safeguarding in research and presenting findings and recommendations. I also lead on innovation via the facilitation of design sprints and the prototyping of new products and services. A key achievement at CALM includes completing a generative digital ethnographic research project which helped identify ‘key protective factors against suicide’, inform the development of a theory of change and KPIs, adjust product propositions and act as a basis for ongoing organisational strategy, service optimisation and product development discussions. I also introduced user research, human-centred design, design sprints, prototyping and usability testing to CALM, training and mentoring staff in these concepts and associated research methods. My facilitation has culminated in the development of products such as the ‘Offload Your Thoughts’ tool which helps to distract and deescalate waiting callers to CALM’s suicide helpline, the remodelling of CALM’s Lost Hours Walk microsite journey to fit post-Covid 19 needs and the redesign of CALM’s fundraising webpages. I have conducted mixed methods research for CALM’s partner the Yogscast, helping secure CALM a place (worth £289,000) in the 2023 Jingle Jam. I have also helped to shape CALM’s award-winning campaigns such as ‘The Last Photo’, ‘Invisible Opponent’ & World Suicide Prevention Day content through guerrilla testing & follow up evaluation. I also introduced Dovetail qualitative analysis software to CALM, training and mentoring staff in its use.
Evidence & Learning Researcher
I conducted and project managed research which informed the continual improvement of the Start Network’s beneficiary and members' user experience. The role involved data collection, analysis and dissemination to varied stakeholders. Key projects I led on included; research across the international membership and stakeholder groups on the efficacy of the Start Network, independent monitoring of member responses to the Covid-19 crisis in India, Pakistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo and a follow up evaluation on the DEPP (The Disasters and Emergencies Preparedness Programme) Innovation Labs. I supported on the creation of monitoring and evaluation frameworks across the Start Network’s portfolio.
Innovation Officer, Uk Programmes
I worked in the UK Programmes Innovation team. I worked across various projects, with particular focus on a behaviour change initiative supporting parents with their children’s language development. The initiative was underpinned by nudge theory and human-centred design. My responsibilities covered facilitating design sprints, conducting primary and desk-based research, undertaking data analysis, presenting findings, producing varied communications, managing projects, stakeholders and partnerships, running co-design and consultation sessions, carrying out risk assessments and managing contracts. Highlights during this role include leading on a 2-week, 60 site Out-Of-Home advertising campaign with JCDecaux, being shortlisted for an award for my outstanding contribution to delivering impact for children, project managing the creation of role modelling videos used by the government’s Hungry Little Minds campaign and making an important contribution to child safeguarding. I managed a team of two people.
Directorate Assistant, Fundraising, Marketing And Communications
I supported the CEO and Executive Director. This involved leading on internal and external communications, managing social media accounts, research, stakeholder management, organisation of international travel and away days, complex diary management and other advanced administration. I increased the CEO’s Twitter following by 29%. Alongside this role I provided interim cover for the Internal Communications and Engagement Coordinator and volunteered at various fundraising events.
Receptionist
I was receptionist at the Marylebone Project, a service supporting women experiencing homelessness. It was my responsibility to ensure all service users and external stakeholders were welcomed and assisted, support the communication of all units and departments, provide basic front line support to service users, manage the telephone, loudspeaker and radio systems, enforce health and safety, manage and analyse data, provide administrative support to and attend regular staff meetings with the Administration and Finance Team and produce a weekly activity newsletter. I created Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans for all 110 residents, improved the service by formulating and acting on the results of a Religious Diversity Questionnaire and established a fundraising committee.
Corporate & Events Fundraising Intern
I supported the Fundraising team with its employee engagement strategy for corporate partnerships, with particular focus on events such as drinks receptions, seminars, disaster simulation workshops, challenge events, the annual Wear Red fundraising campaign and Shelter and WASH training weekends. I also worked with Communications team to assist in preparing marketing designs and materials for RedR UK’s fundraising activities. I undertook general administration and database maintenance. I organised a charity netball tournament for 120+ employees of the charity's corporate supporters, raising £2,500 for the charity and widening its existing supporter base. I played a key role in the preparation and delivery of RedR’s involvement in the 2014 BCI awards and RedR UK’s 'An Evening at The BT Tower’, including a reception with HRH Princess Anne.
